Three Dublin men have appeared before the Special Criminal Court -- two charged with IRA membership and the third with unlawful possession of a firearm.
The men, who were all arrested in Blackrock, Co Dublin, yesterday afternoon, were remanded in custody to appear again before the three-judge, non-jury court on Thursday.
Declan Geraghty (27), with an address at Downpatrick Road, Crumlin, Dublin 12, and Stephen O'Shaughnessy (30), of Avonbeg Gardens, Tallaght, Dublin 24, were both charged with membership of an unlawful organisation, namely the IRA, on September 25.
The third man, Stephen McGowan (33), of Westbourne Avenue, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition at his home on September 25.
Mr McGowan was found to be in the possession of an Intertec 9mm submachine gun and one magazine suitable for use in the gun.
He was also found in the possession of 18 rounds of ammunition.
The court heard evidence that the three men made no reply when cautioned.
They were remanded in custody until Thursday.
