The new €20 coin ... that's yours for €48

IT'S the economy, stupid.

We have regularly been accused by the rest of Europe of not knowing the value of our currency and now the Central Bank has created something of a "coin bubble".

They have launched a new limited edition €20 coin – which can be yours for €48.

The gold proof collectors' coin is to celebrate medieval Irish architecture.

The coin features elements typical of Irish medieval architecture, inspired by the Rock of Cashel.

The back is exactly the same as normal coins and features the harp.

Speaking at the coin's launch at Irish Architectural Trust, Central Bank governor Patrick Honohan said: "The images depicted include the round tower, the Celtic cross and the gothic rose window.

"The combination of these elements, inspired by the Rock of Cashel, provides a clear example of the indigenous and European styles and influences prominent during Ireland's medieval period."

The coin was designed by Irish artist Mary Gregoriy and has an issue limit of 10,000 units.

They are available for the public to buy from today.

Coins can be purchased by downloading an order form from www.centralbank.ie, by phoning 1890 307 607 or directly from the Central Bank on Dame Street in Dublin.
