The Cliffs of Moher saw a 12.5pc increase in the number of visitors in 2014, breaking the 1m mark for the first time.

A total of 1,075,000 people travelled to the stunning Co Clare attraction, 115,000 more than in 2013 and an increase for the fourth successive year.

The Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visiter Experience, Katherine Webster credited the launch of the Wild Atlantic Way as well as new routes into Shannon Airport for the success.

"Strong performances from the core North American, UK, German and French markets have added to the growth seen in newer markets such as Australia, South Africa, China and South America," Ms Webster added.
