Temple Bar pub burglar gets eight months' jail

A FATHER-of-one has been jailed for breaking into a Dublin pub and stealing the manager's laptop.

Eddie McEvoy (30) was captured on CCTV entering the premises.

A court heard he had a string of previous convictions when he carried out the theft in Temple Bar.

McEvoy, with an address at Charlemont Street Hostel, pleaded guilty before Dublin District Court to burglary at the Garage Bar last May 29.

Sgt Zita Woods said the manager opened the premises on the morning in question and noticed that a bag with a laptop, bank card and driving licence were missing.

Sgt Woods said the defendant was subsequently identified on CCTV and arrested. The property was never recovered.

The court heard McEvoy had 107 previous convictions for offences including burglary. He had been in custody since July 11.

The defendant's solicitor said many of McEvoy's convictions were theft-related.

He said he had been addicted to drugs for "quite a number of years". He had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.

Judge Michael Walsh imposed an eight-month sentence.
