Teenager knifed in the back in vicious city gang assault

A teenager was knifed a number of times by a gang of men in an attack in north Dublin.

The 17-year-old was attacked by a gang of knife-wielding thugs in Ballymun last night.

The shocking incident unfolded at 9.10pm at Marewood Crescent, as the local youth was walking with two friends when a dark-coloured car pulled up near him and a number of men jumped out and attacked him.

One of the attackers was armed with a large knife and stabbed the teenager a number of times.

He suffered a large stab injury to his back as well as to the back of his head, and the teenager was also stabbed in both hands in the frenzied incident.

"The laceration on the victim's back is particularly large," a source said.

The victim was rushed to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Gardai are still trying to establish the circumstances leading up to the attack.

After being made aware of the incident, gardai sealed off the area for forensic examination and carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

CCTV footage is also being examined. No arrests have yet been made.
