Teenager allegedly took car after party

A TEENAGER allegedly took a car after he was asked to leave a house party, a court heard.

Trevor Spellman (18) was remanded on continuing bail by Judge Bridget Reilly to a date next month to allow him to speak with his solicitor.

Mr Spellam, with an address at Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with taking a vehicle without the consent of its owner.

The offence allegedly took place at Old Bawn Park, Tallaght, on December 13.

The court heard the DPP has directed summary disposal of the matter in the District Court.

Outlining the matter for jurisdiction purposes, Sgt Bernard Jones claimed Mr Spellman was at a party and was asked to leave.

Sgt Jones claimed it was later discovered that the car keys had been taken and the car was missing from the front of the house where it had been parked.

The sergeant said the car was subsequently recovered, but was extensively damaged.

Judge Reilly deferred jurisdiction, saying she will decide on the matter on the next court date.

Defence solicitor Michael Hennessy was assigned on free legal aid.
