Teen stored €150k heroin

A teenager who stored heroin valued at over €150,000 in return for payment so he could buy a ticket for Oxegen has been given a suspended sentence.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the drugs for sale or supply at his family home on May 27, 2009.

Judge Katherine Delahunt imposed five years' detention which she suspended for five years on strict conditions including that he undergo random drug testing and warned if he failed any drug test, or came to garda attention, he would go to jail.

3 die in suicide bomb attack

A suicide car bomber has killed three policemen and a child in an attack on a police station in a northwestern Pakistani town.

Al-Qa'ida-linked Pakistani militants have carried out numerous attacks on members of the security forces over the past couple of years.

The blast in the town of Karak, 200km southwest of Islamabad, came as police were on the alert for attacks on religious processions to mark the anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad's birth.

Basketball star on sex charges

Former basketball star Alvin Robertson faces charges of sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking, alleging he was among seven people who kidnapped a 14-year-old girl who was forced into prostitution and made to dance at a strip club, authorities said.

Robertson, who was an All-Star player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association, was taken into custody yesterday in Arkansas, said Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Ino Badillo. Robertson lives in San Antonio.

Fireworks kill 13 in China

Thirteen people were killed in a fireworks explosion in Puning, southern China, and more than 30 were injured.

China is celebrating the Lunar New Year, which is its biggest holiday, and fireworks are a large part of the celebrations. The holiday ends tomorrow.
