Teen 'spat on garda uniform'

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with criminal damage for spitting on a garda's uniform.

The schoolboy appeared at the Children's Court to face charges of being intoxicated in public, breach of the peace and criminal damage, in Ballyfermot in Dublin on December 17 last.

The teen also faces a related charged for violent behaviour at Ballyfermot Garda station on the same date.

Judge Leonard granted legal aid to the boy yesterday, and remanded him to appear again next month when he is to enter a plea to the charges.

Presenter's job tribunal ends

Former Countryfile presenter Miriam O'Reilly was due to find out today if she has won her employment tribunal against the BBC.

O'Reilly accused the broadcaster of sex and age discrimination after losing her job when the show was moved to a prime-time slot.

The BBC denies the allegations.

The tribunal panel was expected to provide a written judgment about the case today.

True Grit stars to present Globes

True Grit stars Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon are set to help hand out Golden Globe Awards.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which puts on the Globes, has announced a spate of new presenters.

Also handing out hardware at Sunday's ceremony will be Tina Fey, Tilda Swinton, Kevin Bacon, Helen Mirren, Kevin Spacey, Vanessa Williams, Sandra Bullock, Robert Downey Jr, Jimmy Fallon, LL Cool J, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lopez, Leighton Meester, Robert Pattinson and Bruce Willis, among others.
