Teen refuses probation offer

A 15-YEAR-OLD boy, who pleaded guilty to attacking a man in a shop, has been locked up for four months after turning down a chance of probation.

Judge O'Connor noted from a pre-sentence probation report that the boy has not come to further garda attention and had admitted culpability. But the teenager was not remorseful and did not show any empathy for his victim, the court heard.

The defence lawyer stated the boy did not want to be placed on probation. The judge said the court had little option but to impose the detention sentence.
