Teen mugger spared prison

A 16-YEAR-OLD mugger, who grabbed a woman from behind and then flung her on to a street in a bid to steal her handbag, has been spared a custodial sentence.

The teenager was placed on supervised probation for 12 months yesterday after he pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to robbery of the woman, at Sean McDermott Street, in north inner city Dublin on January 22 last year.

The boy, who has 16 previous criminal convictions, also admitted trespassing at an apartment building, in East Wall, in Dublin, on June 10 last.
