Teen faces trial over vicious mugging

A 17-YEAR-OLD Dublin boy is facing trial over a vicious mugging in which a Zimbabwean man allegedly suffered five stab wounds as he tried to defend himself.

The youth has been charged with robbery of the 57-year-old man at Sundale Heights, Tallaght, in July last year. It is alleged he had been on his way home with his daughter when he was set on by youths. Dublin Children's Court heard he was briefly knocked unconscious and when he came around he was attacked again and stabbed five times.

Judge John O'Connor said the case was too serious to be dealt with in the juvenile court and should be heard at the circuit court.
