A TEENAGER has appeared in court accused of stealing more than €15,000 in social welfare payments.

He is facing trial in the Circuit Court after the DPP ruled the matters were too serious for the District Court.

Lawrence, of Monksfield Heights in Clondalkin, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with over 70 counts of theft.

The majority of the alleged incidents took place at An Post, Neilstown, in Clondalkin, while two of the alleged thefts took place at An Post, Blanchardstown Shopping Centre.

It is alleged that Lawrence stole social welfare payments on dates between December 2009 and July 2011. The alleged amounts varied between €172.90, €186.20 and €342.60.

Lawrence could face further charges and was remanded on bail.
