Teen carried knuckleduster

A TEENAGER caught with a knuckleduster in his van told gardai that his father brought it home from Lourdes with a couple of holy medals.

Darren Mongan (19) said the weapon was a present, and he did not intend to use it.

Judge Patrick McMahon sentenced him to two months in prison, suspended for one year.

Mongan, of The Glade, Hunters Run, Clonee, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to possessing a knuckleduster on the Navan Road on August 24 last year.



Dad-to-be took €170 for pills

A young man who stole cash from a supermarket till so he could buy pills told a court that he has kicked his addiction since he found out his girlfriend was pregnant.

Thomas Whelan (22) said the birth of his child 10 weeks ago had focused his mind.

Whelan, of Balcurris Park West, Ballymun, admitted at Blanchardstown District Court to stealing €170 on November 3 last year.

He was sentenced to 90 days in prison, suspended for one year.
