Taxi driver may have vital clue to park rape

GARDAI are anxious to speak to a taxi driver in connection with the rape of a 29-year-old woman following a night out.

They are hoping a taxi driver who picked up a passenger in the Parliament Street area of Dublin's Temple Bar between 3am and 4am may have information on the assault.

The woman was driven to the Watergate- Sean Walsh Park area of Tallaght, south Dublin where she was assaulted between 4am and 5am.

The black taxi driver is not a suspect. The woman is an Irish national who lives in the Tallaght area. The suspect is a man who got into the taxi after the woman was picked up in the Temple Bar area.

This man and the alleged victim left the taxi at the Tallaght By-Pass and then went to Sean Walsh Park. After the alleged rape, the traumatised victim was treated at the Rotunda Hospital.

The attack allegedly took place within the park itself early on Friday, which borders the Watergate estate.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tallaght Garda Station on 01- 6666000, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1-800-666-111.
