THERE will be no immediate change to the tax payment deadline for people who are self-employed.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan made the announcement following consultations announced at Budget time about earlier tax payment and filing deadlines.

Chartered Accountants Ireland welcomed the decision they described as helpful for Irish business.

A spokesman said: "The disruption which would have been caused to indigenous business in the SME sector by bringing forward tax payment deadlines would have been very serious."

The association, alongside other professional bodies, had robustly argued against earlier tax payment dates.
