Taoiseach staff's €31k pay rises

SPINDOCTORS and personal staff working for the Taoiseach have been awarded pay hikes totalling €31,000.

Thirteen staff, including the Government Press Secretary and his deputy, have had their pay boosted after just a year in office.

Some of the staff, including press secretary Feargal Purcell, are receiving a pay raise of over €3,000. The hikes are the first in a series of pay increases for the Taoiseach's insiders.

They come after Mr Kenny's Government breached a €93,000 pay cap for nine advisers last December.

Former Fine Gael communications director Ciaran Conlon was awarded a salary of €127,000 for a special adviser position at the time.
