THE International Tall Ships Races 2012 are in search of more than 600 volunteers to help out at this year's event in Dublin, which will be the final host port for the festival.
The four-day celebration will take place at the quaysides north and south of the Liffey on August 23-26.
This year is the first time since 1998 that the capital is hosting the event, which will see 100 tall ships sail into Dublin from Mexico, Italy, the US and Norway.
Kate McDonagh, of Volunteer Ireland, said that people have already shown an interest.
"We haven't even really advertised that we need volunteers yet, but 400 people have already signed up," She said. "We are aiming for 1,000-plus."
Volunteers will take training classes in the weekends leading up to the event, which will give them a basic introduction to the race, its background, what the organisers hope to achieve, as well as health and safety precautions.
