Syria 'nuclear' target -- IAEA

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said for the first time that a target destroyed by Israeli warplanes in the Syrian desert in 2007 was the covert site of a future nuclear reactor.

Previous reports by the UN body have suggested that the structure could have been a nuclear reactor, but the comments by IAEA chief Yukiya Amano were the first time the agency had said so unequivocally.

Syria denies claims of any covert nuclear activity.
