Suspect arrested in double murder case

A SUSPECT has been arrested for withholding information about the murders of best friends Eoin O'Connor and Anthony Keegan.

Mr O'Connor (32) and Mr Keegan (33) were found dead on an island on Lough Sheelin in Co Meath by a fisherman who noticed a foul smell on the afternoon of May 26 this year.

However, gardai believe that they were shot dead on the evening of April 22 when they travelled to Cavan to retrieve a drugs debt owed to a notorious Coolock gang.

A different gun was used for each murder.

Yesterday morning gardai arrested a man in his 50s in the Meath area as part of their ongoing investigation.

The man is not a suspect in the killings, but gardai believe that he is withholding vital information about the killings.

He is the third person to have been arrested in the ongoing investigation.

Two foreign men were also arrested in the Cavan area on June 11 this year in connection with the shootings.

The men, one aged 28 and the other 31, were later released.

The latest suspect was taken to Kells Garda Station, where he was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
