SuperValu posts €2.6bn in sales

SuperValu posted record retail sales of €2.58bn in 2014, spurred by the addition of 24 former Superquinn stores.

The retailer plans to invest €18m opening four new stores this year and creating 280 new jobs. One of the stores will be in Athlone, Co Westmeath and another in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

Managing director Martin Kelleher said the company is "satisfied" with its performance. SuperValu holds a 24.9pc share of the Irish grocery market.
