Summer washout forecast with floods on the horizon

THE summer is turning into a washout with yet more rain and flooding on the horizon.

Make the most of the mainly dry weather while it lasts today, because Met Eireann said that, in the Leinster region tomorrow, there will be heavy and persistent rain with "spot flooding possible."

It said that dry periods will develop throughout the day too, with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.

While it was set to be mainly dry today in Leinster, with just the odd passing shower, there will be rain this evening and tonight.

And the picture isn't much better tomorrow. Further spells of heavy rain are predicted for all areas with the west and the southwest seeing the largest amounts with flooding likely, as accumulations reach between 25mm and 35mm in the 24 hour period.

Friday will be another wet and windy day with fresh and gusty westerly winds and heavy showers or longer spells of rain.

Showers will be heaviest and most prolonged over northern areas.
