Student damaged taxi in jump on bonnet

A STUDENT who "inadvertently" damaged a taxi when he jumped onto the bonnet on a night out has avoided conviction after paying compensation.

Simon Woods (22) had the case against him struck out when he paid the €250 at Dublin district court.

Woods, of Shrewsbury Square, Sandymount, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to the taxi at Fleet Street on August 16 last.

Gardai were on patrol at 2.10am when they were flagged down by the driver who pointed out the defendant. Woods had remained at the scene.

The accused had been out with friends in Temple Bar and the damage was inadvertent, his solicitor Pat McGonagle said. He was a full time student from a "very good background".

Judge Michael Walsh struck the charge out.
