Student 'a drunken nuisance' to gardai

AN accountancy student was arrested for drunkenly making a "nuisance of himself" on a street near his flat.

Brian Patton (26) avoided public order convictions after he made a €200 charity donation at Dublin District Court.

Patton, with an address at Dunwiley, Stranorlar, Co Donegal pleaded guilty to public intoxication and failing to comply with garda directions at Fitzwilliam Street Upper on November 30 last.

The court heard gardai on duty found the defendant in a drunken state and gave him several chances to move on.

He had no previous convictions and was on an internship at a financial services firm in Dublin.

Judge Michael Walsh struck the charges out after the money was paid.
