INDEPENDENT News & Media has appointed Stephen Rae as Editor in Chief of its flagship titles the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and the Herald.

Mr Rae (46), who was appointed editor of the Irish Independent in September 2012, takes up the position with immediate effect. An announcement regarding his replacement will be made in due course.

Mr Rae's new role is designed to ensure that the titles collaborate on a print, online and mobile level while at the same time preserving their unique ethos and tone.

Mr Rae is a former editor of the Herald.



A native of Co Kerry, he is a graduate of the DIT School of Journalism and qualified as a barrister at King's Inns, Dublin.

Mr Rae's appointment follows an international executive search process undertaken by MERC Partners.
