Sport writer in teen sex quiz

GARDAI investigating allegations that a prominent sports journalist had unlawful sex with a teenage girl have prepared a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Eighteen months after a probe began into the allegations, officers at Ballymun Garda Station have been able to quiz the well-known writer.

They have compiled a file that is expected to be forwarded to the DPP, who will decide whether charges will be pressed.

The man was detained by gardai just over a week ago to answer a series of questions. It is alleged he and the girl formed a relationship after meeting at a GAA club where he was mentoring her team.

After news of the allegations first broke last year, the journalist was hospitalised and has since been undergoing psychiatric care.
