Skills put to the test

IRELAND'S top 42 apprentices and students have been recognised at the annual IrelandSkills Competition.

The contest pits the best apprentices and students from across the country against each other in 20 skills over a gruelling three-day practical test.

A variety of skills are tested, from bricklaying and aircraft maintenance to cooking and beauty therapy, for both young men and women.

A team of winners then represent Ireland at WorldSkills, the bi-annual global event dubbed "the Olympics for the skills" in December.
