Sisters who died in fire to be buried side by side

SISTERS who died in a house fire as they slept together were buried side by side in a country chapel graveyard today.

Anngeline Brogan (27) and her sister Jody (28) died in a fire at the house they shared in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, on Friday.

A 25-year-old man who was also in the house at the time escaped injury.

THOUSANDS OF MOURNERS HAVE PAID THEIR RESPECTS TO THE FAMILY AT A WAKE OVER THE WEEKEND.

The town came to a standstill for more than 15 minutes on Saturday evening as the coffins of the two sisters were taken from a chapel of rest to their mother Mary's home for the wake.

In a statement, the family thanked all those who had expressed sympathy since Friday's tragedy.

"Both girls will be sadly and greatly missed by all their relatives and friends," they said.

The women's father Frank said the family – and the girls' six siblings – were "absolutely distraught."

A funeral Mass was today celebrated for the sisters at St Columba's Church in Drumoghill, Co Donegal.

The girls were laid to rest together in the adjoining cemetery after the 11am service.

Garda forensic officers have completed their investigations at the scene.

It's not believed there are any suspicious circumstances though the cause of the blaze is still unclear.

The house has been boarded up and flowers have been left at the scene.
