Sister's life-saving gift in memory of tragic star Stephen

THE sister of late Boyzone star Stephen Gately has presented a school in Stillorgan with a defibrillator following the sudden death of her brother.

Joining Michelle Gately to hand over the vital health equipment to St Raphaela's School principal Sr Mary Corr was solicitor Gerald Kean, an ambassador for the Stephen Gately Trust.

"After losing my bother Stephen so suddenly at the age of only 33, it broke my heart as we were so close.

"I decided with the help of my family to set up the Stephen Gately Trust in his memory to raise awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) and to hopefully prevent other families having to go through the pain of losing a loved one so young," Ms Gately told the Herald.

The trust was launched on March 17 last by the Gately family following the sudden loss of Stephen in 2009 from an undiagnosed heart condition.
