Singer Alexandra not sheepish about exploring Ireland

She's an X Factor winner, but popstar star Alexandra Burke swapped limos for Dublinbikes as she made her way around the capital.

The British songstress (26) is on Irish shores to perform in hit show The Bodyguard and has made it one of her top priorities to see the city while she's not on stage.

Since arriving at the weekend, the Hallelujah singer has also taken a trip out west to trace her Irish roots.

"I've been cycling around Dublin and I took a roadtrip to Galway - my grandmother was from Connemara," Alexandra told the Herald.

"When we were driving down to Galway, we passed this random castle called Kylemore Abbey and I was like 'I have to go in there', so we went for afternoon tea, saw all the sights and loads of sheep.

"And I got completely hammered on Guinness - it was an incredible few days off."

The singer-turned-stage star is making her theatre debut in the show, which is on in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre until August 1, and admitted she's finding it hard to relax off stage.

"With the adrenaline I can't sleep, the audiences here have been incredible already," she explained. "We've been blown away by the welcome we've had here."
