singer Sinead O'Connor (48) has revealed that she has cancelled a string of summer concerts as one of her children is battling a "life-threatening medical condition".
The singer originally cited exhaustion as the reason why she pulled out of several shows.
But in a heartfelt message on her Facebook page, O'Connor explained the real reason behind her decision.
"My child has been suffering with a life-threatening medical condition since early March," she wrote.
"It is the type of condition my child will definitely survive, if correct care is taken and is supervised by myself.
"Otherwise there is no guarantee. That is the plain truth," she added.
O'Connor was prompted to cancel her concerts after her child took a turn for the worst shortly before the musician arrived in Las Vegas for Conor McGregor's UFC fight against Chad Mendes.
"I have been instructed by my child's doctor not to work until my child has fully recovered," she explained.
The singer added she is no longer "physically or mentally or emotionally capable of focusing on anything but my child's recovery".
The mum-of-two went on to explain the financial implications of her decision. As the "sole breadwinner" of the family, O'Connor acknowledges times ahead could be tough. She describes the past few weeks as "the utmost stressful experience of my life and to be honest I'm very proud of myself for being so strong".
