Siblings who stole metal poles 'thought it was scrap'

TWO brothers who attempted to take scaffolding from a shopping centre service yard claimed they thought the material was scrap as it was beside a skip.

Bill Moorhouse (31) and his brother John (24) were caught on CCTV trespassing in a service yard and were stopped by security staff.

Judge Patrick Brady ordered the men to complete 100 hours community service in lieu of four months in prison.

The men, of Drumkay, Rathnew, Co Wicklow, admitted before Swords District Court to a charge of trespass.

The incident took place at the Pavilions Shopping Centre in Swords on July 6.

Garda Karen Duffy said security staff stopped the men in the service yard of the Pavilions. They were looking for scaffolding, but had no permission to be in the yard.

The court heard the men thought the scaffolding was scrap material as it was lying beside a skip.
