A brother and sister have entered a guilty plea in the middle of their trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Emma O'Brien (29), of Old Connaught View, Bray, Co Wicklow, and her brother Wesley O'Brien (23), of Ashlawn Court, Bray, had denied assault causing serious harm to Michael Connors (47), possession of a hatchet with intent to cause serious injury and violent disorder at Old Connaught View, Bray, on March 14, 2009.
On day three of the trial, they admitted intentionally causing harm to Mr Connors and to committing violent disorder. Judge Patricia Ryan remanded the pair in custody.
World's oldest dog dies at 26
The world's oldest dog according to Guinness World Records has died, aged 26 years and eight months.
Owner Yumiko Shinohara, of Sakura, Tokyo, said Pusuke, a fluffy tan Shiba mix, died on Monday after suddenly falling ill.
Shinohara said she "would just like to thank him for staying alive so long". Pusuke's life span would have been the equivalent of about 125 years for a human.
274 US troops buried in landfill
The remains of many more US troops have been dumped in a landfill than the military originally acknowledged.
Incinerated partial remains of at least 274 troops were sent to the King George County Landfill, Virginia. Families of the dead authorised the military to dispose of the remains respectfully and with dignity. The mortuary has handled the remains of more than 6,300 troops since 2001.
