Show just karaoke, blasts DJ

Britain's version of The Voiice is already under fire -- before it has even started.

Veteran BBC DJ Paul Gambaccini has branded the corporation's new show a "karaoke competition".

The BBC1 show begins on Saturday in a head-to-head with ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

But Gambaccini, who has earned the nickname 'the professor of pop', said: "The Voice is a karaoke competition, full stop."

Since making its debut in the Netherlands, The Voice has spawned hits around the world and even beat ratings for American Idol in the US.
