IRISH people are planning to spend 9pc more on their family and friends' Christmas gifts this year. Consumers have budgeted an average spend on seasonal presents this year of €810 per adult, compared to €744 last years.
This reverses the trend in 2011 versus 2010, which resulted in a decrease in spend.
And parents expect to spend €293 on gifts for each of their children, according to the AllGifts.ie Christmas Survey 2012.
Partners and spouses will spend €151 on average on gifts for each other, while those buying gifts for a work colleague will spend an average of €30 each. And more shoppers are turning to website shopping with 65pc of Irish adults planning to buy online.
