A YOUNG man has died after shooting himself in the head outside his fiancee's home in south Dublin early today.
The man, named locally as Darragh Best (25), shot himself in a horrific incident at a Tallaght housing estate.
His devastated partner Bernadette McNevin was being comforted by family today.
It is understood that this is the second tragedy to befall the family, following the death of the couple's seven-month-old baby, Hannah Louise, in 2009.
The groom-to-be's body lay on the street outside the home he shared with his fiancee, at Rossfield Park, this morning. The gun used in the tragedy lay by his side.
Gardai were today investigating where Mr Best sourced the 9mm handgun used in the shooting.
A source said: "This is an unbelievable tragedy. The young couple were well liked in the local area and were planning their wedding."
Mr Best is understood to have walked out of his home shortly after 1.15am and then shot himself in the head, while standing on the pavement outside the house.
Some locals reported hearing two shots and, while gardai are investigating this, they are treating the matter as a tragedy.
