Aspiring singer Sheenagh McMorrow is hoping to wow the judges on tonight's Ireland's Got Talent.

With the semi-finals set to begin next week, the last crop of hopefuls looking to impress will showcase their talents on the TV3 show before the judges pick who will be saved from the chop.

Sheenagh (10), who was nine when she auditioned, wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mum, Claire, who got a deal with BBC records when she was her age.

"I did a talent contest and then was offered a contract with BBC records and made a record with them. I was on Terry Wogan and Top Of The Pops and Blue Peter and stuff like that when I was younger," said Claire.

"It lasted maybe a year-and-a-half. It was good fun."

Claire, who is originally from Manchester but moved to Leitrim to raise her daughter, released the single It's 'Orrible Being In Love (When You're Eight And an 'Alf) in 1986, and Sheenagh decided to sing the same song for her audition.

"It was really nice that I got to sing my mum's song. I saw YouTube videos and I really wanted to do it," she said.

"I was nervous, but mostly excited. The judges were all really nice."

Sheenagh, who regularly takes part in her school's plays and Christmas shows, is hoping to become a singer when she grows up, and has had her eye on talent shows such as Ireland's Got Talent for some time.

"She's been saying it for a while," said Claire. "She's been singing for years and she would watch Britain's Got Talent or The X Factor and say, 'Can I do that?'

"She wanted to do the song I had made. I found a backing track for it the week before.

"We didn't have that much time to prepare, but she did very well."

Ireland's Got Talent has been a ratings success for TV3, averaging around 350,000 viewers.

Three semi-finals will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Eight acts will perform on each show, with two acts going through from each to the live final next Saturday.

Each show will have a live performance by a guest, including English pop star Paloma Faith, who will perform at the final.
