SF candidate on course to be city mayor for 2016

Dublin is destined to have a Sinn Fein mayor in 2016 and it is understood to be councillor Criona Ni Dhalaigh (above).

Labour, Sinn Fein, Green Party and Independent councillors within Dublin City Council, reached a coalition agreement last year and the Sinn Fein mayoralty for 2016, as part of the deal is still on course.

"Criona is their number one option as she's popular everywhere," said one councillor.

"It would be an honour for any Sinn Fein councillor to be the capital's first citizen, but I also realise that it would be a challenge given the lack of local government funding and the homeless crisis," Ms Ni Dhalaigh said.
