Seven dead in bloody beginning to the year

2014 has got off to a bloody start with seven violent deaths since the start of the year.

* January 1 – Dale Creighton (20) who was found with serious head injuries near a footbridge in Tallaght. Eight people have been charged in relation to the fatal attack.

* January 1 – Wayne McQuillan (30), pictured below, was found stabbed in the neck outside his home in Drogheda. Paula Farrell (40), who lived with the victim, was charged with his murder.

* January 6 – Thomas Horan (63) was found dead at his home in sheltered accommodation in Ringsend. Kenneth Cummins (26) and his sister Sabrina Cummins (36) were charged with his murder.

* January 7 – Father-of-six Christy Daly (47) was found dead in a ditch in Co Offaly, pictured below. The killers fired a handgun into his body and then left him sitting upright in a six-foot-deep drain.

* January 9 – Michael O'Dwyer (25) was fatally stabbed in an attack at a house in Co Waterford. A 32-year-old man was charged with his murder.

* January 11 – The body of Vincent Maher (29) was found in his apartment in Finglas. The dad-of-one had held a party at his apartment on Wellmount Road.

Gardai were detaining two men for questioning last night.

* January 12 – Journalist Tom O'Gorman was killed at his home in Castleknock early yesterday. A 34-year-old Italian man was today charged with his murder.
