Rory and Tiger get in the swing of it with Jimmy

Superstar golfer Rory McIlroy has revealed how his phenomenal winning streak has made him appreciate Tiger Woods' dominant patch in the game.

The world's two most famous golfers expressed mutual admiration during their appearance on Monday's NBC's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

While McIlroy praised Woods' enormous contribution to the game, the American superstar said he wants to recover from his back injury to attain the explosive form of the Northern Ireland star.

He said: "I have to get stronger and more explosive like this little guy over here who hits it for miles and is kicking everyone's butt."

The 24-year-old from Co Down made sure he returned the compliment.

"I've gotten to know Tiger over the last few years," he said. "I guess this little run that I'm on makes me appreciate what he's done in the past. Just phenomenal, and he's done like way more than me."

The double interview with the golfers, who were both on the show to promote Nike's new irons, seemed slightly awkward at times, though both were quick to praise each other's abilities.

When Fallon asked McIlroy what he thought about when he stood over the ball with his golf club, he joked: "I just try to pretend to be Tiger Woods. What would Tiger do?

"But no - I just try to visualise my shot and sort of have in my mind's eye what you want to do."
