Romantic mountain walkers get stuck

A man's plan to propose to his girlfriend on Ben Lomond, Scotland ended with a mountain rescue operation.

The party of four got into difficulty on the way back down when one of the three men ran out of energy and could not continue.

The walkers phoned police shortly after midnight last Friday and gave their location, about 500 metres from the summit.

Rescuers climbed the tourist path and reached the group in about an hour and a half, helping them to safety.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team said: "Central Scotland Police contacted the team leader at 12.15am to request the team's help to evacuate a group, three males and a female, in difficulty on an evening ascent of Ben Lomond.

"There was a special reason for this since one of the males was going to propose to his American girlfriend."
