IRISH consumers are the most empowered in Europe with 73pc believing that retailers have shoppers' best interests at heart.

The latest 2010 EU Consumer Markets Scoreboard has found that Irish consumers rank fourth in the EU in terms of consumer trust.

The percentage of Irish consumers who encountered problems with purchased products was also low.

The level of consumer complaints dropped last year by half to 7.7pc of those surveyed and 49pc of those who did complain said they were satisfied with the way in which it was handled.
