THE Irish arm of JJB Sports is up for sale following the appointment of a provisional liquidator.

JJB's rival, Sports Direct, is buying 20 of its stores in Britain.

The Irish business division of JJB Sports comprises of four retail stores and two gyms based in Dundalk, Limerick, Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley and currently employs 102 people.

The High Court appointed Kieran Wallace of KPMG's Dublin office as provisional liquidator to JJB Sports in Ireland, following a petition from the company's directors.

The retail stores and gyms will in the meantime remain open on a "business as usual" basis as the liquidator moves to sell the business and assets of JJB Sports in Ireland as a going concern.
