DIY retailer B&Q saw profits turn to losses in Ireland last year as home improvement slumped.

The company said that 2010 was a "disappointing" year as pre-tax losses were almost €1.3m in the year to January 29, 2011.

This compares to a profit of €798,050 in the previous year but the company noted that these results were in line with Irish market conditions.

Turnover in the year was €104m, compared with €112m in the previous year.

While staff costs came to €17m, from €18.5m the previous year, employee numbers fell from 795 to 774.
