Report ordered on attack teen

A TEENAGER who punched and kicked a youth in the head in an unprovoked attack will be sentenced in May.

The 17-year-old, who is in care, had pleaded guilty in January at the Children's Court to assault causing harm to the youth, in north Dublin, on July 1 last year. Judge Bryan Smyth heard that the boy's probation officer was looking for further time to complete a pre-sentence report on the teen.

The court had heard that during the attack, the boy had to be "pulled off" his victim.

Santry Garda John Twyford had told Judge Smyth that the teenager approached the youth and "struck him three times" because he had mistakenly thought he had "slagged off" a friend.

Boy (16) faces trial on robbery

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy is to face Circuit Court trial over a gang robbery where a Brazilian man was dragged to the ground and beaten.

The teenager has been charged at the Children's Court with robbery of €600 from the man, at Herberton Walk, Dublin, on October 31.

Garda Kevin Lawless told Judge Bryan Smyth that it would be alleged that the man, who had only been in the country a few weeks, was attacked by a group of youths.

Judge Smyth held that the case was too serious to be dealt with in the Children's Court and should go to the Circuit Court.

The boy was remanded in custody pending the preparation of a book of evidence.
