A MARKED fall in the number of regular savers was recorded last month, especially among younger people, the latest Nationwide UK (Ireland)/ESRI Savings Index shows.
It fell two points in May, with the proportion of people saving regularly down in May to 28pc from 31pc last month and 38pc a year ago.
The decline is most apparent among those in the under-50 age bracket, with just 28pc of this group saving regularly in May, compared to 36pc last month and 41pc a year ago.
