Razzmattazz in the Docklands

The chq Building in Dublin's Docklands will resound to the sound of the Penn State University Blue Band Pep Band and cheerleaders from the University of Central Florida on Thursday.

The performers from the two universities are in Dublin for the Croke Park Classic which will see the University of Central Florida host Penn State in the 2014 season opener at GAA headquarters next Saturday.

The performance is free and will start at 1pm.

Hamas shoots 'collaborators'

Hamas executed 18 Palestinians accused of collaborating with Israel, a day after military strikes by the Jewish state killed three top commanders in the Gaza-based Islamist militant group.

Hamas's shooting of people it accused of aiding the Israelis followed a vow by Israel's defence minister to hunt down more militant leaders. Israeli airstrikes on Thursday successfully targeted three senior members of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing.

Cholera claims
67 in Ghana

Cholera has killed at least 67 people in Ghana since June and infected more than 5,000 others in an outbreak that highlights the health and sanitation challenges facing one of Africa's fastest-growing economies.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the outbreak was centred on impoverished communities in urban areas in the south that lack adequate toilets, though there were also a few cases in rural parts.

Some 54 people have died in or near the capital, Accra, and around 300 are now being infected daily with the highly contagious disease.

US protests at Chinese jet

THE Obama administration yesterday accused a Chinese fighter jet of conducting a "dangerous intercept" of a US Navy surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft off the coast of China in international airspace.

The Pentagon said Washington protested to the Chinese military through diplomatic channels, calling the fighter pilot's actions "unsafe and unprofessional".
