Rape trial into closing stages

THE trial of a man accused of anally raping his boss's teenage daughter two years ago has reached its closing stages at the Central Criminal Court.

The 34-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to one count of anally raping the then 13-year-old girl in a storage facility at the back of her father's business on a date between August 16 and October 1, 2008.

Earlier a doctor told Bernard Condon, prosecuting, that he found genital warts on the girl's anus which he said were "highly likely" to have been sexually transmitted.

The trial will resume before Mr Justice Barry White and a jury of six men and six women.

Singer bitten in dog attack

A judge in the US has ruled that a pitbull accused of biting pop singer Vanessa Carlton can return home if its owner installs a fence.

Ben Teichberg's dog Bella had been removed from his home after the incident on May 2.

Carlton, best known for her 2002 hit A Thousand Miles, testified on Wednesday that she had been jogging past Teichberg's home when Bella bit her.

Teichberg was found guilty of failure to confine his dog and assessed a $100 (€79) penalty.
