Railings injury boy gets €13k

An eight-year-old "promising little boxer" who was injured when railings fell on top of him has been awarded €13,000.

Aaron Whelan was trapped in a laneway when the railings fell on him, the Circuit Civil Court.

Aaron, of Primrose Grove, Darndale, Dublin, was walking with his mother when the accident happened.

The court heard Aaron was a promising little boxer who had made a good recovery and now, 11, was happily getting on with life since the June 2007 accident. Walsh Construction, of Edenmore Park, Dublin, accepted liability.

Diver jumped on girl's head

A HOLIDAYMAKER jumped on top of a 13-year-old girl's head in a Spanish swimming pool, a court has heard.

Shona Carroll had been left with an occasional crick in her neck for up to a year afterwards, the Circuit Civil Court heard.

Shona, of Mary Brennan Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin, had to wear a surgical collar for the remainder of her family holiday in June 2007.

Judge Mathews approved an €8,000 settlement offer from Budget Travel Ltd.
