Raiders pull knives on baby in home robbery

BURGLARS pulled knives on a baby during a robbery at a family home.

Three thugs wearing hooded tops broke into a home and confronted the child's horrified parents.

The terrifying incident took place in the Brewery Court estate, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, at 3am yesterday. After demanding the family give them the keys to their car, the thieves tried to escape.

However, the vehicle broke down a short distance away and it was later discovered burnt out by gardai.

The couple, in their 20s, were said to be traumatised but suffered no injuries.

Gardai in Co Mayo are hunting the armed gang after the terrifying break-in.

Fine Gael councillor Patsy O'Brien described the disgust of the whole community at the raid.

He said the attack was "unprecedented" and he condemned it "wholeheartedly".

Mr O'Brien said he hoped the perpetrators are brought to justice as soon as possible.

He urged gardai to look at operations in which they can prevent this kind of attack happening again.
