Raider used imitation gun

A drug addict who attempted to rob a Lucan shop and threatened the owner with an imitation handgun has been given a six-year sentence with the final two years suspended.

Jason Hannigan (30), of Harelawn Park in Clondalkin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm at Centra in Balgaddy on January 12, 2008.

Judge Tony Hunt heard that Hannigan had entered the shop with an imitation gun, ordered the owner to open the till and hit him with an iron bar several times.

Attack left man scarred for life

A 21-year-old who assaulted another man on a night out leaving him with a permanent scar on his face has been given a three-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court with the final two years suspended.

Andrew O'Keeffe of Drumcliffe Road, Cabra pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Declan Hickey in Phibsborough on March 17, 2008.

Garda John Moran told Ms Fiona McGowan, prosecuting, that Mr Hickey was attacked after he and two friends went to a fast food outlet in Phibsborough.

Shabby leaves the BB house

Shabby has left the Big Brother house without the knowledge of her housemates.

The 24-year-old escaped eviction on Friday after being nominated alongside Caoimhe, but left via the Diary Room shortly after 3pm, leaving her unrequited love interest, Caoimhe, to sleep soundly on the bed. Shabby and Caoimhe last night asked Big Brother if they could quit after a series of arguments among housemates.

Hospital used for porn movie

A "big budget" porn movie was shot in a London hospital that hired out a ward to a film company.

Tory MP Penny Mordaunt revealed yesterday: "When I was director of Kensington and Chelsea Council, I discovered that one of our local hospitals was hiring out one of its closed -- but fully-equipped wards -- to a film company to use as a film set.

"To add insult to injury, the movie was a pornographic one."
